Ash Wednesday (February 22) marks the beginning of Lent, the six- week season which concludes at Easter (April 8).
This may not seem like a way to gather a crowd, but we want to mark you with ashes, symbolizing our sin and mortality. We believe in this ancient Christian symbol because of what it helps us understand. For as we mark ourselves in this way, we prepare ourselves to better see the wonder, the surprise, even the shock of what Jesus brings to us. We best understand this by journeying through a whole season — the season we call Lent.
This year we invite the whole community of Westside to experience the power of the Lenten season by marking a 40 minute event on Wednesday, February 22, at 7:10 pm (finished by 7:50 pm). We invite families to come with their children, friends to come in groups — everyone! We will give a brief teaching on how to enrich this season, give you a devotional exercise for Lent, and send you off with the marking of ashes.
