Mission

Where Jesus ceases to be a plastic symbol of synthetic faith and becomes the cruel paradox of laying down life and taking it up all in the very same moment; where examples of humility, sacrifice, integrity, and faith invite us to live in the very same way; this is were mission begins.

At unedited Mission is more than the title we put on our international trips it is the life of Christ lived where ever we find ourselves. It encompasses our commitment to a better world, our participation in a better city and our expression of faith lived in the context of this particular faith community.

Whether you are interested in flying to Africa with a medical team, volunteering with Feed Hungry here in the city or picking up a guitar and serving the community on a Sunday night, you are part of the unedited spirituality mission.

GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES

What would happen if we chose to experience the story of AIDS in Africa as it occurs?

In January 2005, Westside King’s Church began its part in God’s redemptive work in Africa by sending 34 people to remote areas of Zambia and South Africa to join mobilized Africans in caring for the dying, orphans and widows through home-based care, education and construction of community infrastructures. Since then, many more teams have gone.

Any and all skills and ages are needed. Only a desire to serve and be open is required.

FOOTPRINTS IN AFRICA

Footprints is a program where you can take the lessons of your short-term exposure to Africa to the next level. In short, the program is 11 weeks in duration, spent with our partner Hands At Work in Masoyi, South Africa. The focus of this program is on preparing volunteers to serve effectively in one of our projects throughout Africa as well as being exposed to the realities of the challenges here. The preparation allows volunteers to:

Observe the operations and heart of Hands at Work in Masoyi;

Experience traditional African community and living first-hand

Build relationship and experience living with orphan-headed households;

Discuss realities of African culture with local leaders, including tribal chiefs, church and community leaders;

Learn effective and valuable community intervention strategies

Following on from that, volunteers move out to one of our projects, to serve. Hands at Work project locations currently include Swaziland, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo and now Nigeria. This is for a period of about 6 – 9 months. And at the conclusion of their time, volunteers return to South Africa for debriefing week.
